A Sad Day in the Parker House

Sophie is sick and her days with us are limited.

Last week I took her to Pet Food Express to get her and Murphy's vaccinations.  The vet tech there said her stomach was bloated and recommended we get her checked out.  We took her to the vet yesterday and after a blood panel, x-rays, and a biopsy of the fluid in her abdomen it has been confirmed that she has internal bleeding.  (The vet showed us the vile of blood he collected from her abdomen.)

The vet said there is a 98% chance that the bleeding is being caused by a growth in her spleen or liver and the probability of the growth being cancer is very high. After carefully exploring the options we have decided that we will let nature take its course. The vet said that could happen in the next 5 minutes or 4 weeks from now.  Thus far her spirits seem to be good.  She seems to be sleeping more and eating less.  The doctor said she may just continue to get more and more lethargic until she passes in her sleep or she might just suddenly collapse and die (like having a heart attack).  The doctor assured us she is not in pain.

We are very, very sad but also very grateful for the full life she lived (11.5 years) and the 2.5 years we had with her.

I took this video this evening during some quality time with Sophie.
