We moved into an area of San Jose called Willow Glen. Until 1936 Willow Glen was its own city. Regular flooding of the residential cesspools drove the city to be annexed into the city of San Jose so they could tap into their sewage system rather than build their own.
I'd been telling Bill for several years that I wanted to "upgrade" to Willow Glen. From what I knew of it, it seemed like an unpretentious charming little town. My interest in Willow Glen really started to register for Bill when we started driving through its neighborhoods to drop Nathan off at my friend Ruthann's 3 days a week. The tree lined streets with craftsman style homes were hard to pass up. One morning we had coffee on the downtown strip (re-named Lincoln Ave shortly after President Lincoln was assassinated) and as we watched families walk buy with their dogs and kids, Bill looked at me and said now I understand why you want to be here. And it turns out a lot of people feel the same way we do. We got out bid on three houses before we got ours!
The weekend we moved our house was filled with neighbors and kids and dogs. We got "welcome to the neighborhood" cards, chocolate cakes, and the promise to host a welcome to the neighborhood BBQ when we were settled. Several people also gave us a list of all the people on the block. Including the previous owners, who highlighted who their go to people were - the people they would leave their kids with in an emergency. I like to tell people that when you buy a house in Willow Glen you don't just buy property, you buy a community. We are very thankful to be here.
This house is 60% bigger than our previous house and we have a guest room. So let us know when you plan to vist. In the meantime enjoy these "crawling" tours of the house.
